Introduction to Valea Viilor
Just 15 kilometers from Mediaș, in a little-visited yet extremely picturesque area, you will find a village that will be hard to leave. The tradition and unique spirit of Transylvania are at home in Valea Viilor.
Historical Background
Like most localities in the southern part of Transylvania, Valea Viilor was colonized by Saxons in the 13th century, with the village's name in German being *Wurmloch* (the hole with snakes).
Architectural Heritage
Over time, the people of Valea Viilor have proven their intelligence and resourcefulness, and in the 15th century, they even built an evangelical church and a fortress, among the most beautiful in Transylvania.
Ecological Households
Today, tourists visiting Valea Viilor should not leave without visiting one of the six ecological households. In total, there are six of these, all part of the Regional Ecomuseum network.
In these types of households, the original appearance is preserved, with:
- Gardens and yards arranged in a traditional manner
- All the other characteristic elements of this area
Recognition
For these reasons, this year, the village of Valea Viilor was also included on the list of the most beautiful villages in Romania.
