The Bâlea Area

The Bâlea area is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders, especially due to the thickness and persistence of the snow layer that lasts here for up to 7-8 months a year. Skiing and snowboarding can be practiced in this area until July. Currently, there are three transport facilities operating at Bâlea, ranging from 1,700 m to 2,208 m in altitude.

Activities in Bâlea

In the Bâlea slopes, both recreational and extreme winter sports can be enjoyed.

Recreational Skiing

  • Recreational skiing starts at Bâlea Lake, following the contour lines to Pillar Two, from where it continues along the road to Bâlea Waterfall, covering a distance of 14 km.

Extreme Skiing

  • For extreme skiing enthusiasts, there is the option to descend from Pillar Two down the slope to the base of the waterfall and then to Bâlea Waterfall.
  • Transport to Bâlea Lake can be done from Bâlea Waterfall via the cable car over a distance of 3,800 m.

Events at Bâlea Lake

At Bâlea Lake, two major annual events take place, attracting the attention of extreme sports enthusiasts:

  • Bâlea Freeride
  • Bâlea X-Ride

Due to the presence of dangerous trails, the strongest Salvamont center in Romania operates here.
