Bethlen Haller Castle in Cetatea de Balta, a forgotten history
Introduction
In the middle of the road between Târnăveni and Blaj, on the banks of the Târnava Mică, you will surely notice a building that will beckon you to stop for at least a few minutes to visit it. This is the Bethlen Haller Castle, a monument built at the beginning of the 17th century, of which only a few historians still remember today.
Architectural Features
The castle has five covered towers, one of which features an interior staircase leading to the upper floor. The noble appearance of the building can be seen even from a distance, with visible Renaissance architectural elements.
Interior Design
- The rooms on the ground floor remind you that this is where the servants lived.
- Once you reach the upper floor, the door frames, the solid wood flooring, and the centuries-old vaults will stand out.
Over the years, the castle has changed owners several times, each time passing into the possession of a member of the famous Bethlen family. Thus, renovations took place here in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Visiting Information
Private visits to this castle are not possible, except for organized groups. It should also be noted that the property is undergoing extensive rehabilitation, so at the moment only the ground floor and the cellar have been restored.
