Introduction to Mureș County
Mureș County is home to numerous localities that enrich it and give it notoriety. One of its components is the village of Cund, also known as Cundu, which is part of the Bahnea commune. This Transylvanian segment of Romania is located just 33 kilometers away from Târnăveni, and from the direction of Târgu Mureș, the entrance is only 45 kilometers away.
Demographics and Culture
Being a relatively small locality, with a limited spatial and temporal extent, in 1992 the locals numbered no more than 197, most of whom were Romanians, Germans, and last but not least, Hungarians. However, unlike a number of other localities in the area, the village of Cund represents a true tourist attraction – not only its specific architecture, the Transylvanian landscape, the local people, but also the exquisite dishes, traditional food, and the Evangelical Church dating back to the 14th-15th centuries contribute to the beauty and richness of the locality.
The Evangelical Church
Much can be said about the Evangelical Church, as there is much known about it.
Historical Significance
Firstly, the year 1804 is rightly famous regarding the construction of the fortification, as during this period the church tower was raised, which even now has a clock (unfortunately non-functional) embedded within it. This clock operates on a single mechanism, framed along all four faces.
Culinary Delights
Regarding the culinary aspect of the village of Cund, if in other localities of similar size one could not find, in any form, a restaurant, pub, or anything of the sort, nowadays the restaurant and, at the same time, the Valea Verde guesthouse are commonplace.
Any tourist, simple visitor, or even local can stop by and taste exquisite dishes prepared by local chefs and beyond – surely, once these delicacies are tried, it won’t be long before such elements find their way onto the wish list for future vacations and holidays.
Unique Features of Cund
An extremely interesting and unique element found in the village of Cund is represented by a manual graphic illustration of the entire village based on a hand-drawn map – guess where? – right on the wall of a house within the locality.
This aspect truly illustrates the entire labyrinth (unknown to a newcomer, but a piece of cake for a local) and, for better or worse, ensures that anyone in the area does not get lost, being captivated by the marvelous landscapes of the village of Cund.
