The Archers' Tower in Sibiu
The Archers' Tower in Sibiu was built in the 15th century, over a hundred years after the city authorities decided to construct the third fortified enclosure of Sibiu. This enclosure also included the Potters' Tower and the Carpenters' Tower.
Architectural Features
The name given to the Archers' Tower comes from the keyhole-shaped embrasures through which the city's defenders fired their arquebuses during attacks.
Distinctive Construction
- The tower is distinctive in that it is built of stone up to a height of one meter, and then only of brick.
- Over the years, the tower has been modified and raised to withstand the attacks of time.
- Today, it has four floors, each equipped with firing openings.
Location
The Archers' Tower can be found on Cetății Street, parallel to Corneliu Coposu Boulevard.
