Discover Sibiu on the Transhumance Road

Those who want to see a lesser-known side of Sibiu County and uncover all the beauties of this region in Transylvania can choose the *Transhumance Road.* The route can be traveled in a single day by car and includes some of the most beautiful spots in Sibiu.

The Journey Begins

The journey begins in Christian, where tourists can visit the fortified church built in the 15th century. Here, the stork nests have become a local attraction, with nearly every post hosting a stork making its home.

Localities Along the Route

Next comes Aplodu de Sus, Miercurea Sibiului, and Dobarca—three localities that in turn hide fortified churches built between the 13th and 15th centuries. Neither Sibiu Glade is missing from the *Transhumance Road*, where tourists can visit sheepfolds and even taste the delicacies of these places.

Jina: The Highest Altitude

In Jina, the locality situated at the highest altitude in the *Marginimea Sibiului region, over 900 meters, tourists can visit an ethnographic museum* which includes over 1,800 traditional costumes, icons, woodworking tools from traditional workshops, old books, as well as objects used in the daily life of the ancestors of these places.

Rod: A Mountain Locality

From Jina downwards, tourists reach Rod, another mountain locality surrounded by fantastic landscapes and trails perfect for practicing, where tourists will encounter huts, orchards, and flocks of sheep, along with all the beauty that embodies the spirit of this area.

Notable Stops

The route deserves a stop at Tilisca at the ruins of the Dacian fortress of Fotești, and at Wales, where tourists can admire the ancient architecture: shingle-covered houses, massive wooden gates, and more.

The City of Crafts

The Transhumance Road then continues to Saliste, also known as the "city of crafts." Here we can learn from tanners, leatherworkers, weavers, and glass icon painters the secrets of their trades.

Final Stops

The road continues to Sibiel at the *Museum of Glass Icons and stops at Fountains*, a hidden village in the mountains with orchards that offer the coolest fruits in summer and autumn.
