Casa Lutsch: A Treasure of Sibiu

Located at number 13 in the Great Square of Sibiu, Casa Lutsch is still considered one of the greatest treasures of the city. Not only from a financial perspective, but especially due to the age and history that envelop this building.

Historical Significance

Constructed in Gothic style in 1424 (the exact date is not known), the house has hosted important figures from the country's leadership throughout its long life:

• Kings
• Voivodes
• High dignitaries
• Other notable individuals passing through Sibiu, the most important city in Transylvania.

Historians say that the residence was built by King Sigismund and later came into the possession of the Haller family. By the end of the 16th century, the house was purchased by Johann Lutsch.

Legends and Lore

One of the legends surrounding the house claims that the property was won by Georg Reussner in a game of bowling, which is why one of the house's coats of arms features two hands, one of which holds a bowling pin.

Modern Usage

In recent history, Casa Lutsch also operated as a restaurant and today is the home of the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania.
