The Rope Street in Brașov, the narrowest street in Europe.

The Narrowest Street in Europe

A street in Brașov, measuring an average width of just 123 centimeters, is classified as the narrowest street in Europe. This alley is located right in the heart of Brașov and connects Poarta Schei and Cerbului streets. If you stroll along either of the two mentioned above, only a sign with an arrow indicates that you are passing through an intersection. Otherwise, you are likely to miss it entirely.

History of the Street

The history of the street is equally fascinating. It was built back in the 17th century, initially designed to facilitate access for firefighters in case of emergencies.

Measurements

  • At its narrowest point, the street measures just 111 centimeters.
  • At its widest, it is only 135 centimeters.
  • The street is 80 meters long.

One of the legends surrounding this street suggests that it was a popular meeting place for young lovers.
