The Piatra Craiului massif hides nature's jewels – located at a relatively equal distance from the town of Zărnești are the Zărnești Gorges, the well-known tourist attraction that captivates the majority of visitors with its breathtaking beauty. Nestled in the heart of nature, this place is a 5-kilometer-long gorge with 200-meter-high walls. And no, it doesn’t require a special time to be visited; in fact, a little-known fact is that it can be explored at any time. It’s no wonder that at least one group of tourists is present daily!
We can’t quite call them pristine, but the Zărnești Gorges are maintained in a divine state – thanks to the barrier at the entrance, which prevents any cars, motorcycles, smoke, or noise from disturbing the tranquility of nature that so many of us seek.
Of course, this winter would be fabulous if you could get here. Believe it or not, the Zărnești Gorges are so narrow in some places that they almost intersect. Many films, renowned artists, and international actors have visited these breathtaking natural wonders.
If you wish to spend your evenings and then continue your journey the next day, you are welcome to stay at the guesthouses located on the outskirts of the town. The rates are not high compared to the view, the rarefied air, and the mountain biking trails! You can choose any path to traverse the gorge's walls. There are dozens, and the longest and most exhausting one is 115 meters. Well, once you get there, the choice of challenge is entirely yours!
The importance of the Zărnești Gorges lies in the fact that even today, they shape one of the access routes to the hiking trails in the Piatra Craiului massif. Thus, starting from one place, you can reach another (either by bike or on foot) to fully enjoy nature. Without pollution, without a hint of noise, just the profound silence of nature inviting you to step into another world, a fairy-tale world untouched by man!
If you want to fully enjoy this tourist attraction, we recommend visiting during the rainy or snowy periods – just to witness the water cascading into the gorges and beyond. It’s a fairy-tale image, torn from stories, but in summer, the atmosphere is pleasant, the temperature moderate, and the air pure – free from any impurities!
