Discovering Râpa Roșie in Alba County

If you find yourself in Alba County, more precisely in Sebeș, we have an irresistible offer for you – and it's no wonder why. Spanning an area of almost 10 hectares, this massive wall is dotted here and there with small holes, tiny caves from which red streams emerge when it rains. The geological reserve is 800 meters long and varies in height between 50 and 125 meters.

The Legend of Lică-Pisică

As beautiful as the area is, the little legend is equally ineffable. Here, at Râpa Roșie, it is said that the famous Lică would sneak around, later nicknamed Lică-Pisică due to his ability to slip away unnoticed.

The Tale of the Bank Heist

Even Sebeș knew about him, but they also knew that Lică had supposedly robbed a bank and fled with the money, despite the fact that no cash was ever found. Thus, it was believed that Lică had escaped with the money and hidden it in Râpa Roșie, where no one could enter due to the narrow spaces. Consequently, poor Lică-Pisică ended up in prison, and after his release, he supposedly left for America with his girlfriend, from where the two sent significant sums of money back home.

True or not, the legend still raises questions and heightens our desire to see the place where Lică supposedly managed to hide the large sum of money and, more importantly, the spot through which no one could enter to restore the amount to its original form.

Nature's Bounty

Here you can find numerous medicinal plants in large proportions and rare specimens that are worth seeing at least once in a lifetime. And let's be serious – there is no plausible reason not to stop for a photo, a picnic, or just to share a simple story in the midst of nature, in the heart of the Red Ravine.

A Unique Experience

Without a doubt, this feeling could easily be associated with what you might experience at the Grand Canyon, the beautiful, famous, and dangerous place that is also worth a visit. Such a feeling could envelop you in just a few moments!

Finding the Red Ravine

The Red Ravine is not difficult to find at all – in fact, it is extremely easy to identify given its height, width, surface, and the perfect shade of red. Here, you could even say that you feel like you are living another life...
