Prosperity feels at home in Poiana Sibiului. You can sense this as soon as you enter the richest village in the Mărginimea Sibiului region, located just 50 kilometers from Sibiu. Modern houses, clean and well-kept farms, and people who seem to have no worries.
For as long as they can remember, the residents of Poiana Sibiului have been engaged in sheep farming, making it impossible not to notice this in their traditions.
If you find yourself passing through or on vacation in Mărginimea Sibiului, you must not miss a trip to a traditional sheepfold. There, you can taste cheese and milk prepared according to ancient traditions. A stroll among the houses of Poiana Sibiului is also worthwhile, as the streets are not asphalted but paved with river stones.
The elders recount that when the first people arrived in Poiana Sibiului, they were dissatisfied with the fact that the area was not very grassy and that the sheep would have nowhere to graze. However, the shepherds took their sheep to the high hills in the area, and everything turned out to be beneficial for them.
Today, sheep farming is the main occupation in Poiana Sibiului, and on September 19, the largest fair in the country for the sale of sheep and rams is held here.
