Haferland Week 2026: A Celebration of Saxon Culture in the Heart of Transylvania

Between August 6 and 9, 2026, the historic region known as "Oat Land" (Haferland) in Transylvania will transform into a true festival of Saxon culture. Haferland Week, an annual event that celebrates local traditions and customs, will take place in the picturesque villages of the area, such as Criț, Meșendorf, Viscri, Saschiz, Roadeș, Bunești, and Archita.

Central Theme: "Reunion" and "Home with the Saxons"

The 2026 edition of Haferland Week focuses on the theme of "reunion" and the concept of "home with the Saxons", offering visitors a deep dive into local traditions that have survived centuries. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover Saxon hospitality and understand the efforts to restore historical monuments in the area.

Events and Activities

Haferland Week 2026 will be filled with events and activities that showcase Saxon culture in all its splendor. Visitors will be able to participate in brass band concerts, traditional craft workshops, Saxon folk dance performances, and guided tours of fortified churches, many of which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Saxon Gastronomy

Gastronomy takes center stage at Haferland Week 2026. Visitors will be able to savor authentic dishes such as chamomile soup, lichi, or rhubarb cakes, prepared according to recipes passed down from generation to generation. These local delicacies will be served in the picturesque atmosphere of Saxon villages, offering a unique culinary experience.

The Importance of the Event for the Community

Haferland Week 2026 is essential for revitalizing rural communities and preserving built heritage. The event is supported by local foundations that advocate for the conservation of specific architecture and the promotion of sustainable tourism in the region.

Why You Should Attend Haferland Week 2026

You should attend Haferland Week 2026 because the event offers a "slow travel" experience, far from urban crowds, in a unique cultural landscape where time seems to have stood still. Participating in this festival represents not only a vacation but an active form of supporting the local economy and sustainable tourism in the heart of Transylvania.

In August 2026, Haferland awaits you with open arms and offers an unforgettable experience in the heart of Transylvania. Don't miss the opportunity to discover Saxon hospitality and understand the efforts to restore historical monuments in the area.
