
In the Făgăraș Land, in the village of Sâmbăta de Jos, you will encounter a place that will be hard to leave. The Stud Farm in Sâmbăta de Jos, located 14 kilometers from Făgăraș, is the only one in Romania where the famous Lipizzaner horses, one of the noblest European breeds, are raised.
The stud farm was established in 1874 on the grounds of the Brukenthal Castle. Before the outbreak of World War I, the stud farm was moved to Babolna in Hungary, but in 1920 it was reestablished in Sâmbăta de Jos, and today several hundred stallions and mares call this place home.

Once you arrive here, don’t hesitate to visit the castle built in 1750 by Count Jozsef Brukenthal. Although it is not in the best condition, the woodwork and solid wood floors will still impress you.
