Introduction to Băile Homorod

Located in the town of Vlăhița in Harghita County, Băile Homorod represents the cornerstone of Transylvania in terms of the growing importance of tourism. Geospatially, it is situated a mere 18 km from Odorheiu Secuiesc and 6 km from the town it belongs to, namely Vlăhița.

Healing Waters

What sets Băile Homorod apart on a regional, national, and sometimes even international level is the high mineral content of the waters in the area. Minerals such as lithium, manganese, and bromine benefit the human body, both when combined to create a healing drinking water and for external use. The beneficial properties of these waters have been demonstrated since the Roman occupation, which is why the springs of Băile Homorod truly deserve consideration!

Post-Operative Recovery

Additionally, in post-operative recoveries, the waters of Băile Homorod are more than beneficial. We are talking about an increasing number of people who prefer to spend their post-operative days here, given the climate and subalpine microclimate, as Băile Homorod is sheltered from winds and other natural meteorological disturbances.

Tourist Attractions

However, Băile Homorod is not known solely for its healing and beneficial waters for the human body – on the contrary, we can focus on a series of tourist attractions that can rightfully add beauty and relaxation to your holiday spent here.

Ruins of Foldvar

  • The Ruins of Foldvar are among the most appreciated, located on Laz and representing the remains of a Roman castellum, covering an area of 36 square meters.
  • Additionally, nearby, at a distance of 200 meters, lie the ruins of another former Roman fortification, occupying a significantly smaller area.
  • The two are undoubtedly declared natural reserves and are legally protected.

Ski Slope

Another tourist attraction favored by winter enthusiasts is the ski slope in the Băile Homorod area. It is important to mention that, being relatively low, the slope would be perfect for beginners of this winter sport. For a longer and more complex route, there are certainly other areas you could choose from.

Historical Significance

Last but not least, the church built in 1765 by Count Lazar Janos is representative of Băile Homorod. In gratitude for having managed to escape rheumatism through these healing waters, he decided to beautify Băile Homorod with a small church that would carry his name and history throughout its existence.
