Exploring Huet Square in Sibiu

Just a few minutes spent in Huet Square in Sibiu will surely unleash your imagination. Some of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Sibiu are located in this square, which is nearly a millennium old.

History of Huet Square

The story of Huet Square begins in the late 12th century when the first fortified enclosure of Sibiu was built. Along the defensive walls, the first buildings began to emerge, today some of the most beautiful in all of Transylvania.

Must-Visit Attractions

Certainly at the top of the list of must-visit buildings in Huet Square in Sibiu is the Evangelical Cathedral.

Evangelical Cathedral

  • The oldest part of the building dates back to 1371.
  • It is said that the construction of this monumental church took nearly 200 years.
  • The tower of the building is structured on seven levels and reaches a height of over 73 meters, making it the tallest medieval construction in the entire country.

Other Notable Structures

Also in Huet Square in Sibiu is the former town hall of Sibiu. This is a house that was donated to the city several hundred years ago.

And if you find yourself in Huet Square, don’t miss the Council Tower, a structure that is part of the wall of the old fortifications that has connected the "Upper Town" and the "Lower Town" for several hundred years.
