The Reopening of the "Golden Road": Ecotourism and Mining History in Apuseni

In the heart of the Apuseni Mountains, a long-awaited event took place: the official reopening of the hiking season on the restored segments of the old gold transportation road. This historic road, known as the "Golden Road", offers a unique perspective on the history of Dacian and Roman mining, linking important sites in the Roșia Montană and Țara Moților areas.

The History of Mining in Apuseni

The Apuseni region has been known for centuries for its mineral riches, particularly gold. The Dacians and Romans were among the first to exploit these resources, leaving behind a rich and fascinating legacy. The Golden Road, which has been rebuilt and restored, allows visitors to discover this rich history and enjoy the wild and picturesque landscapes of the Apuseni Mountains.

The Golden Road Trail

The Golden Road trail offers a unique hiking and exploration experience. Visitors can follow the road used by Dacian and Roman miners to transport gold and other precious metals. Along the way, visitors will have the opportunity to discover important historical sites, such as mine galleries, fortifications, and old settlements.

Guided Tours

To maximize the visitor experience, guided tours are offered that combine exploration of the wild landscapes with an understanding of the industrial heritage of the area. Local guides, well-prepared and passionate about history and nature, will lead visitors along the Golden Road trail, providing detailed information about the history of mining and the natural landscapes.

Sustainable Ecotourism

The initiative to reopen the Golden Road aims to promote sustainable ecotourism in the Apuseni region. This means that visitors are encouraged to respect the environment and support local communities. Local pensions and craftsmen in isolated villages will benefit from this initiative, which will contribute to the economic development of the area.

Benefits for the Community

The reopening of the Golden Road has multiple benefits for the local community. Firstly, the initiative will contribute to the economic development of the area, creating jobs and stimulating local economic activities. Additionally, the initiative will help promote and conserve the cultural and natural heritage of the region.
