Introduction to Mureș County

Mureș County is home to numerous localities and municipalities of unique beauty. One of these is Reghin, recognized as the second city within the county, with a population of 33,281 according to the 2011 census, which has been steadily declining, with a majority of Romanians and Hungarians.

Geographic Location

The municipality of Reghin is situated at an altitude of 395 meters. The first documented mention of the city dates back to 1228, when King Andrew II of Hungary decided to give the locality its official name, at that time *Regun*.

Surrounding Localities

To set the spatial-temporal aspects, it is imperative to present the localities in the immediate vicinity of the municipality of Reghin. Thus, to the north lies Suseni, alongside Brâncovenești, just 12 kilometers away. Additionally, Ideciu de Jos and Solovăstru (to the east) surround the beautiful locality.

However, Reghin is not only related to the cities in the area but also to the city itself. In this regard, the municipality covers an area of 7,282 hectares, land that includes:

  • Yards
  • Buildings
  • Streets
  • Parks
  • Agricultural land
  • A courthouse that, in a broad sense, manifests within a territorial radius that encompasses the Mureș Tribunal and the Târgu Mureș Court of Appeal.

Transportation

If you are considering stopping in Reghin and are worried about public transport, you can peacefully dispel that fear. The municipality includes the Târgu Mureș-Deda railway, and if you wish to come by car, DN15 and DN15A are always useful. Moreover, DN16 has a direct intersection with the city, thus establishing a direct connection between the municipality and Cluj-Napoca. Additionally, DN17 and E58 are other roads that, along with various county roads, make access to the city of Reghin feasible from any area.

Tourist Attractions

The defining monuments of the municipality of Reghin are tourist attractions of national and even international interest. Thanks to these, our country receives an increasing number of tourists each year, with notable mentions including:

  • The Evangelical-Lutheran Church
  • The wooden church dedicated to Saint Nicholas

Historical Personalities

The municipality of Reghin is also known for other nationally significant aspects, particularly due to a series of personalities such as:

  • Petru Maior
  • Virgil Onițiu
  • Hugo Schwab

These important names have made history, and each of them has made their own contribution, which is why they are recognized individually for their merits.

Conclusion

The city rightfully possesses a unique beauty – a mix of old and new, blended in a pleasant and attractive way for the eyes of tourists. An oasis of tranquility for any passerby wishing to inhale a bit of authentic history!
