Discovering Rotbav

You may have heard of Rotbav in passing, but we must definitely write about the beauties of this Brașov locality. The story behind its founding is just as beautiful. It is said that in 1170, 11 families were brought to the area to establish a new settlement. As enemy attacks were quite common, a few decades later, the village moved further east. The name of the village also comes from a merciless attack: the legend tells that after one such invasion, the people washed their clothes in a river that turned red from the blood flowing from the garments. "Rot" means "red" in German.

The Fortified Castle

In Rotbav, you will undoubtedly find one of the most beautiful fortified castles in the Land of Bârsa.

  • Built around the year 1300, the castle is typically Saxon.
  • The fortified enclosure was constructed around 1400, which also includes a cell where prisoners were kept.

Natural Wonders

In addition to the fortified castle, if you reach Rotbav, do not hesitate to visit the forest of ancient oaks, some of these grand trees being over 700 years old.

It is also good to know that when you arrive in Rotbav, you should visit the mineral springs here. It has been said since ancient times that the water from these springs helps with:

  • Rheumatological conditions
  • Cardiovascular conditions
  • Gynecological conditions
