The Celebration of the Juni in Brașov
One of the oldest festivals in our country is undoubtedly the Celebration of the Juni in Brașov. Held every year on the first Sunday after Easter, the celebration brings together hundreds of young people from Brașov County who compete in various contests. The roots of this festival date back to 1910 when there were only a few groups of juniors, and by 1924, there were seven groups of juniors:
- The Young Juni
- The Old Juni
- The Turkey Juni
- The Dorobanți Juni
- The Brașovecheni Juni
- The Roșiori Juni
- The Albiori Juni
The Tradition
Tradition says that on Thomas Sunday, the juniors descend into the fortress of Brașov and at 10 o'clock, they head towards Union Square in front of the *Saint Nicholas Church. After circling the statue of the unknown hero, the juniors line up in two groups and begin a march. They stop at the Captain Ilie Birt Cross, then proceed along Revolution Boulevard, pass through the Șchei Gate, go up Captain Ilie Street, and continue their journey to The Head of the Village until they reach Solomon's Stones, an area where legend says King Solomon* leaped on horseback over the valley that runs between the two cliffs while fleeing from pursuers.
