Overview
It is a locality in Sibiu County documented since 1282. The locality houses a fortified evangelical church built in the 15th century, in Gothic style, on the site of a church destroyed a century earlier by the Turks.
Historical Features
- In 1483, the construction of the defensive wall with five towers began, which features:
- Shooting openings
- Openings for boiling tar
- The clock tower was erected in the 16th century.
- In 1772, the ceiling was renovated, and in 1774, Johan Folbart built the baroque altar.
- The organ is the work of masters Friedrich and Wilhelm Maetz from Biertan.
- On the sides, there are two wooden balconies with benches.
Recent Developments
In 2005, the defensive wall was reconstructed by the Saxon community, who left these lands during the communist era. They are the ones who still take care of this church that has stood above the village for over 500 years.
