The Church in Archita

The church in the Mureșan locality of Archita is very well preserved, although it is one of the lesser-known fortresses and has dimensions and beauty similar to those of the fortresses in Biertan or Moșna.

Construction and Features

The construction of this fortress began in the 14th century, and of the nine defensive towers it originally had, six still stand today. Within these towers, one can observe the openings through which those tasked with defending the fortress poured tar and water on the enemy.

The Gothic Church

In the center of the fortress, there is a Gothic church, also fortified, with a bell tower built in the 14th century.

Unique Fortification

The fortification at Archita is quite unique, thanks to its double rectangular enclosure, crossed by a watch path. The walls of the two enclosures reach a height of nearly seven meters.
