The legend of the old church in Talmacel, among the most beautiful legends in Transylvania!

The Legend of the Old Church in Talmacel

One of the most beautiful legends in Transylvania is the legend of the old church in Talmacel. When you hear about Mărginimea Sibiului, you think of animals roaming freely on the streets, fresh hay, homemade cheese, but also of churches and legends, each more beautiful than the last. Tălmăcel does not fall short in this regard, and the story that has circulated in the village for hundreds of years regarding the construction of the church is one of the most enchanting.

The Construction of the Church

It is said that in 1776, the people of the village began the construction of the old church. However, after a few years, the funds from the villagers for this project ran out, and the church was abandoned.

The Storm and the Gold

A powerful storm came to the villagers' aid because, after a rain that devastated many of their crops, a barrel full of gold came floating down the river that runs through Tălmăcel, among the stones and branches. The villagers used the gold to complete the church, and as a token of gratitude, they named the river "The Tower Stream."

Visiting Tălmăcel

If you find yourself in Tălmăcel, don't hesitate to visit the church and also to taste the famous homemade cheese from this area.
