The paradise in the Trascău Mountains, Lake Iezer Ighiel
Discovering Lake Iezer Ighiel
If you find yourself in Transylvania and want to experience total relaxation, then Lake Iezer Ighiel is exactly what you need. Little known to mainstream tourism, this lake, located just a few kilometers from Alba-Iulia, has managed to preserve the tranquility and landscapes that you can only encounter in Transylvania.
Unique Features of Lake Iezer Ighiel
Unlike other lakes, there are no houses or motorboats along its shores; only the dense forest guards the lake, which is:
- 450 meters long
- Between 150 and 420 meters wide
The story of the lake is also intriguing, as a landslide caused its formation in the shape of a natural dam.
Accommodation Options
If you wish to spend more days by the shores of this lake, there is a single cabin available for rent, owned by the Alba Forest Directorate, which offers two-star accommodation.
Getting to Lake Iezer Ighiel
To reach Lake Iezer Ighiel in Alba County, you need to follow DN 74 from Alba Iulia to Ighiu, approximately 15 kilometers. From Ighiu to Ighiel, you will take DC69, about 5 kilometers. The last 10 kilometers from Ighiel to the lake are on a forest road, so if you don’t have a well-equipped off-road vehicle, a walk might not be a bad idea.
