The Rakoczi Stairs in Târgu Mureș

A Stop in Târgu Mureș

On a long journey, a stop is always welcome – a stop in the magical city of Târgu Mureș, a place that hides numerous monuments and buildings, each more remarkable than the last. Among them is the Rakoczi Stairs, a series of steps that connect Revoluției Street to the Medieval Fortress Park.

Returning to the initial statement, you can rightly take a break here – the 70 steps that make up this staircase will do you good, considering that a little extra movement has never harmed anyone. The Rakoczi Stairs in Târgu Mureș have graced these lands since 1902, when the craftsman Soos Pal decided to put his architectural plan into action. The choice of builder could not have been better, given his extensive works and the numerous buildings he designed and constructed in Târgu Mureș during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Historical Significance

Of course, the name Rakoczi may evoke, for those in the know, Francis Rakoczi II, recognized for his role as the leader of the Hungarian Revolution (or the Kuruc Revolt) in the early 18th century. His service to the community began on April 5, 1707, continuing through the end of the Revolution in 1711, during which he participated in the peace treaty signed in Satu Mare, an act that calmed the waters between the warring parties.

Recognition and Tourism

What is interesting is that on an international website, the Rakoczi Stairs ranked first, thanks to a photograph taken by Romanian photographer Dragoș Gurăroșie. With a strong and influential impact in the media, this construction has practical applicability in the tourism sector, managing to bring together tourists from numerous regions and continents over the years.

To help increase this number, in 2014 the Rakoczi Stairs were painted with traditional motifs. Thus, promoted, this construction has become much more visible and much more involved in everything that means national tourism.

Visit Târgu Mureș

If you want to go somewhere this winter but prefer to step onto Romanian lands, the city of Târgu Mureș awaits you to visit its Rakoczi Stairs – the most beautiful staircase in the world where you can step and enjoy every smooth, easy, and simple step you take. Nothing is more beautiful than a stop in nature, built on the hard work of valuable people, work that has endured through the years but has helped it become increasingly beautiful!
