The Temple of Sinca Veche, the place where all your wishes come true.
Introduction
Just 45 kilometers from Brașov, right at the border between the Făgăraș Mountains and the Perișani Mountains, you will find a church that is over 7,000 years old, whose mysteries still circulate today. It is the temple of Șinca Veche, a village located in the heart of the country, which shows signs of having been untouched by time and reminds you once again why to love Transylvania.
Legends and Local Insights
The legends of the church are well-known throughout the village, so it's a good idea to stop for a chat with the locals before visiting. If you're lucky, someone may guide you along the two-kilometer path to the temple. Otherwise, you'll need to follow the road until you reach a white cross located right at the edge of the forest. After navigating through the thicket, you will see the entrance to the temple.
The Temple of Șinca Veche
Unique Structure
The temple at Șinca Veche is not what you might have imagined, nor is it a traditional church. This place of worship was carved into a granite rock about 7,000 years ago, although the exact year and the builders remain unknown. Furthermore, many say it may not be a Christian church since it has two altars.
What is certain is that the temple at Șinca Veche has suffered greatly due to its location, on the border between Romania and the Habsburg Empire, and was even closed in 1742 after Orthodox churches were banned.
Architectural Features
The church was carved with great meticulousness:
- The windows are narrow, allowing very little light to enter.
- The church's tower rises from within, reaching a height of ten meters.
- The church has a total of nine rooms, on the walls of which are engraved icons that are still subjects of study for researchers today.
The Temple of the Fates
Known as the Temple of the Fates, the church at Șinca Veche earns its reputation not only from its stunning architecture but also from the legends that surround it. It is said that those who pray within the temple can have their wishes fulfilled. The elders of the area believe that everything is granted by the immense power and energy hidden within the rock.
In the past, villagers would leave personal items and agricultural tools at the entrance to charge them with energy. However, few are aware of the true history of the cave carved into the granite rock at Șinca Veche.
