If you have two free days and want to spend them in a picturesque environment, yet not far from the city, Gura Râului is the perfect choice, a place that will make you appreciate the beauty of Romania. The dam located here is just right for hiking with family or friends. But make sure to bring a camera and plenty of space, as the landscapes here are truly unique.
The Dam
The dam is situated three kilometers from the village of Gura Râului and was built in 1981. It has a length of 330 meters and a height of 73.5 meters. The 15.5 million cubic meters of water provide for the needs of the entire city of Sibiu and its surroundings.
Camping and Activities
The area is especially suitable for those passionate about camping, as there are many great spots for setting up tents. If you are truly enthusiastic about trekking and excursions, you can follow the path of the river that flows into the reservoir lake.
Proximity to Sibiu
The dam is also just a few kilometers from Sibiu, making it possible to take trips into the city as well.
