Introduction to Valea Viilor

Valea Viilor was first mentioned in the 13th century, in the year 1263. The village of Valea Viilor is located in the northern part of Sibiu County, 14 km away from the town of Mediaș, along county road 142G.

Historical Significance

Over time, Romanians, Saxons, and Szeklers have coexisted in Valea Viilor, also known as Wurmloch or Baromlaka. The name Valea Viilor has been used since the last century and attests to the importance of this wine-producing settlement in the Târnavea Mare area.

The Fortified Church

The fortified church was built in the 14th century, initially dedicated to Saint Peter, and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1999.

Ecomuseum

Valea Viilor is part of the Regional Ecomuseum network. The Valea Viilor Ecomuseum includes five households that have preserved their original appearance, with traditionally arranged gardens and courtyards.
