Introduction to Zetea
Located in Harghita County in Transylvania, the commune of Zetea remains a representative point on the map of Romania, encompassing the villages of Desag, Izvoare, Poiana Tarnavei, Sub Cetate, Șicasău, and the residence Zetea.
Demographics and Ethnic Composition
Not many people are familiar with this commune - and here the conflict between Romanians and Hungarians may come into play. Subjugated by the pages of history and the wars that have taken place, the commune of Zetea is predominantly made up of:
- Ethnic Hungarians (96.72%)
- Roma (1.18%)
- Remaining residents are a true minority and, at times, undeclared.
Additionally, regarding religious affiliation, the statistics are as follows:
- Roman Catholic: 93.95%
- Reformed: 1.59%
- Unitarian: 1.06%
- Jehovah's Witnesses: 1.13%
Of course, these figures come from the official census conducted in 2011, but nevertheless, most of the data can be used without any hindrance in our discussion.
Population Trends
The total population of the commune of Zetea is 5,643 residents, which is on a declining trend compared to previous years.
International Recognition
Although up to this point, we cannot say that Zetea is a commune that could be recognized nationally and, undoubtedly, not internationally either, the situation is quite different. The commune of Zetea is internationally recognized for the țuica (plum brandy) produced here. The largest quantities of this liquor are consumed by foreign tourists who, eager to make the most of their time spent here, wish to indulge in the delights of Zetea.
A Peaceful Retreat
Despite its relatively small size, the commune of Zetea is truly beautiful and an oasis of inspiration for those who wish to enjoy a peaceful retreat away from the hectic traffic. However, due to the lack of Romanian citizens in these areas, it is somewhat preferable to know their language to engage in conversation with the villagers. Not that it matters, but most have chosen to remain loyal to the war and all the events that occurred long ago on the territory of our country.
Visiting Zetea
If you wish to visit the commune of Zetea, we assure you that there is much to see - and visit - while you indulge your body in tranquility and joy. For any holiday you have planned in the area, remember to stop by the commune of Zetea and enjoy, alongside the specific Zetea țuica, the joys of nature and a region that, perhaps, you may not have the chance to see anytime soon. It is worth it from every perspective and will delight anyone!
