Visiting Marpod

If you find yourself in Marpod, a village located 32 kilometers from Sibiu, alongside the fortified church and the breathtaking views that are hard to put into words, make sure to visit the "Jar of Story Jam." You might be wondering what that is; well, in a few words, it's a different kind of library.

The Jar of Story Jam

"The Jar of Story Jam" is the first concept library in Romania where, in addition to books, readers can enjoy tastings of jams, homemade cakes, and other delicacies that make reading more appetizing. The story of the "jar" began last year at the initiative of the Astra Library in Sibiu, which aimed to revitalize libraries in areas where they have become unfamiliar to the locals.

Library Setup

The library has been set up in the basement of the old town hall building. On the shelves of the library, alongside novels, jars of jam have been arranged, each more tempting than the last. Each section of the library features a representative jar:

• The jar of love jam
• The jar of historical stories
• The jar of practical works
• And so on

Project Initiators

The initiators of the project say they chose Marpod to establish this concept library mainly due to the culinary history of the area, knowing that the people of Marpod are great food lovers and good cooks.

Future Plans

Of course, the library is just at the beginning of its journey, with its founders planning to organize:

1. Creative workshops for children starting this year
2. Gatherings for the women of the village to exchange culinary recipes
3. A place where traditional products from the villagers can be sold
