Hidden Beauties of Bistrița-Năsăud County
Bistrița-Năsăud County hides unexpected beauties. One of these is the village of Colibița, part of the Bistrița Bârgăului commune. From a scenic perspective, the village flourishes visually thanks to the Bârgău Mountains and the Călimani Mountains that surround it. Over time, due to its breathtaking beauty, local authorities have sought to obtain resort status so that an increasing number of tourists can come and admire this natural treasure.
Tourist Attractions
With or without local approvals, Colibița is now a tourist resort around the dam that bears its name. The tourist attractions are wonders of nature, as the emphasis is primarily on the valleys, mountains, and observable dams. Thus, the road between Bistrița and Vatra Dornei is lined with an unbroken chain of communes, locally recognized as Bârgaie, namely:
- Rusu Bârgăului
- Josenii Bârgăului
- Mijlocenii
- Susenii
- Prundul
- Tiha
- Mureșenii Bârgăului
Demographics
Demographically, the village of Colibița had 400 inhabitants in 2002 – 396 Romanians and 6 Hungarians. Nine years later, in 2011, the number of Hungarians remained constant, while the number of Romanians decreased to 245.
Pure Air and Accommodation
However, Colibița is also known for many other elements, particularly its area with the purest air. Interestingly, the region is one of only two in Romania where purity levels are at their maximum, meaning the health benefits are significant. Nevertheless, accommodation options are often insufficient for people to enjoy a stay in the heart of nature.
Historical Significance
The year 1923 was a significant period for Colibița, when the village was established as a balneo-climatic resort. However, this period was not very long, as in 1975, this functionality came to an end. Since 1980, the accumulation dam was built, but the entire settlement of the village had to be relocated.
Growing Tourism
Even today, the number of tourists is continuously increasing, given that the beauty of nature is captivating. With up to 400 holiday homes, villas, guesthouses, and other establishments, tourism is growing exponentially. On the shores of the lake, there is now a tourist complex, of course, privately owned. With this means, any tourist can enjoy both the treasures of nature in Colibița and a range of services that are clean and directly related to the price each visitor must pay.
