Introduction to Seven Ladders Canyon

Located in Brașov County, the Seven Ladders Canyon is one of the most visited and enjoyable gorges in our country. With a length of over 150 meters at an altitude of 948 meters, this course is made up of Jurassic limestone originating from the western part of the Piatra Mare Mountains.

Composition of the Canyon

The Seven Ladders Canyon consists of seven steps, with heights varying between 2.5 and 15 meters. At certain times, when the amount of water brought by the Seven Ladders stream increases, the result is the formation of waterfalls of various heights. Fortunately, the entire area can be visited without specialized equipment, thanks to the stairs located nearby.

Formation of the Canyon

However, let’s focus on how the Seven Ladders Canyon was formed, as we are discussing some aspects of real interest. Thus, being carved into Jurassic limestone, these Ladders were created due to accelerated epigeneis, whose action was based on various slopes of larger or smaller dimensions.

Visiting the Canyon

If you want to visit the Seven Ladders Canyon, remember that to find the main access, you must come from the area of Timișul de Sus and from Dâmbul Morii, which can be accessed directly from the national road DN1. The driving time is approximately one hour.

Historical Context

Looking back into history, we find ourselves in the 1920s and 1930s, a period during which it was decided that the Seven Ladders Canyon should be opened for viewing. Additionally, during this time, the foundations for some stairs were laid, allowing tourists to walk freely and enjoy the beauty of nature. However, it was only two years ago that access was granted, as some rehabilitation elements were completed to ensure that visiting and crossing this Canyon could be done under optimal and safe conditions.
