In Slimnic, if you have the chance to visit this autumn, don't forget to taste the apples from the local orchards. Their flavor is renowned throughout the country.
But apples are not the only part of Slimnic's history, also known as Mandra Fortress.
Located midway between Mediaș and Sibiu, Slimnic has always been subjected to Turkish invasions. That is why the fortress built here in the 14th century is one of the most frequently affected by these invasions. Consequently, the inhabitants of Slimnic have rebuilt it each time, but the siege of 1706 was devastating.
Today, the fortress is in ruins, yet its location on a verdant hill provides an incredibly beautiful feeling as you stroll among the brick walls and pass under the arch of the main entrance gate.
