Discovering Pătrăhăițești

If you go to Scărișoara this autumn, make sure to stop by Pătrăhăițești, a small village with just a few houses where you will completely disconnect from city life. But we recommend going there not only for the beauty of the area, but especially for the delicious pies that the local housewives prepare using a recipe that has been preserved for hundreds of years.

Aunt Domnica's Pies

As soon as you arrive in Pătrăhăițești, be sure to ask about Aunt Domnica. The whole village knows her as one of the best cooks, and everyone will send you to her to taste a blueberry or sweet cheese pie like you’ve never had before.

It goes without saying that you can also drink:

  • The most natural milk
  • The coldest spring water
  • The sweetest blueberry liqueur right there

Accessing Pătrăhăițești

Pătrăhăițești is one of the most isolated villages in the Apuseni Mountains. It is mainly accessed from Arieșeni, but unfortunately, the road is almost impossible to navigate by car, especially after a heavy rain.

On foot, it takes about an hour and a half, but we guarantee that the journey is worth every minute. Along the way, don’t forget to stop for photos: the landscapes are fantastic!

The Land of the Tulnic

If you hear a majestic and deep sound, don’t be alarmed, because Pătrăhăițești is also known as the land of the tulnic. Here, you will have the chance to meet craftsmen skilled in the art of the tulnic, people who will tell you all about the history of this traditional musical instrument of the Moți region.
