The Legend of the Child from the Black Church in Brașov

The Legend of the Black Church

One of the most haunting legends of Transylvania has its roots in the 15th century, coinciding with the construction of the Black Church in Brașov. On one side of the church, on a column, stands a statue of a child depicted in a position that gives the impression of leaning over the building's cornice. The sculpture is quite atypical, considering it is placed above such a valuable monument, and the legend surrounding it is equally strange.

The Apprentice and the Master Builder

It is said that during the church's construction, the master builder hired an apprentice to assist him with the masonry work. As the months passed and the project neared completion, the master noticed his apprentice's skill. Out of jealousy, he ordered him to retrieve something from the church's cornice, but at the moment the apprentice leaned over, the master pushed him.

The same legend states that the statue was erected later, on the same column, by the same master, consumed by remorse.

Brașov: A City of Beauty

This legend of the Black Church, along with other beauties of Brașov, makes it one of the most beautiful cities in Transylvania. So, for this weekend, a visit to Brașov is more than welcome.
