Located in Cluj County, the town of Turda is a municipality that belongs to the region of Transylvania. In 2011, according to the national census, it had a population of 43,472 residents and was first documented in 1202. The city seat is Turda, a name that overlaps with that of the current municipality.

Historical Background

In the past, the locality was known as Turdava. Of course, this was just the initial name, as it was later conquered by the Romans and transformed into Potaissa. In ancient times, Turda was divided into three distinct areas (or counties):

• Turda Veche
• Turda Nouă
• Oprișani

Each region has its own cultural and interesting aspects.

Regarding the city itself, even though today there is the Teodor Murășanu School, one of the most renowned in the area, in antiquity, this settlement was home to the very first Romanian school in Turda, a building for which our country was long celebrated.
